By Tiza

Note: This ruling has been updated to incorporate new information provided after the publication of the original ruling

TL;DR

  • York added Gleb “Room Temp IQ JG” Nakarikov to their roster ahead of their Round 2 match vs. Carleton University
  • Nakarikov failed the his registration sportsmanship check and was not eligible to compete in the 2019 College LoL Season
  • Due to an administrative error, he was not notified of the result of the check, and competed in York’s round 2 match
  • Per the results of the sportsmanship check, Nakarikov has been suspended for the remainder of the 2019 College LoL Season
  • Because the error was solely on our side, the results of the match will hold, and York University will not face any punishment

CONTEXT

Last week, York University registered Gleb “Room Temp IQ JG” Nakarikov to their roster, in time for him to start in their round 2 match vs. Carleton University. Nakarikov did not pass his sportsmanship check. However, due to an administrative error, Nakarikov was not notified of the results of the check and competed in the match.

After the round 2 match was completed, we confirmed than Nakarikov had competed, despite failing his sportsmanship check. It originally appeared that the player and team were notified of Nakarikov’s ineligibility, meaning that his participation in the match was a knowing violation of College Season rules.  However, it later came to light that neither the team nor the player received notification of ineligibility.  In effect, at the time of the match, York was competing with an eligible roster.

It’s important to us that competitive rulings are both accurate and fair. As far as Gleb and York knew, they were following the rules, and nothing was wrong. As such, we feel that it wouldn’t be right to punish them solely for our administrative error.  Nakarikov will still be suspended for the remainder of the season, per the results of the sportsmanship check, but we are confirming the results of the match as played and not issuing any further punishment to York University.
