NA Challenger Series Ruling – Kimchi Dos Spicy & Kimchi 2 Spicy

A team member of ranked team Kimchi Dos Spicy confessed to colluding with a second team, Kimchi 2 Spicy, in order to manipulate the standings of the Ranked Teams ladder.

Teams: Kimchi Dos Spicy & Kimchi 2 Spicy

Region: NA

Facts:

A team member of ranked team Kimchi Dos Spicy (KDS) confessed to colluding with a second team, Kimchi 2 Spicy (K2S), in order to manipulate the standings of the Ranked Teams ladder. Both teams were observed engaging in “queue sniping” and soft play just hours before the Summer Challenger Series 2 ladder lock. As a direct result of these actions, KDS moved up five spots in the ladder. KDS immediately dodged two consecutive games and lowered their seed by one, bringing them to a final placement of four seeds above their previous placement.

Relevant Rules

Section 9.1.1.1 of the official Challenger Series ruleset states: “Collusion is defined as any agreement among two (2) or more players and/or confederates to disadvantage opposing players. Collusion includes, but is not limited to, acts such as:

  • Soft play, which is defined as any agreement among two (2) or more players to not damage, impede or otherwise play to a reasonable standard of competition in a game. [9.1.1.1.1]
  • Deliberately losing a game for compensation, or for any other reason, or attempting to induce another player to do so. [9.1.1.1.4]

Section 9.1.1.2 states:
“Teams are expected to play at their best at all times within any CS game, and to avoid any behavior inconsistent with the principles of good sportsmanship, honesty, or fair play.”

Ruling

Both teams, Kimchi Dos Spicy and Kimchi 2 Spicy, willingly and purposefully violated rules 9.1.1.1.1, 9.1.1.1.4 and 9.1.1.2 of the Challenger Series ruleset and will be subject to penalties.

Competition Penalties
The following players of Kimchi Dos Spicy and Kimchi 2 Spicy are suspended and ineligible to compete in the Challenger Series and any other Riot affiliated competitions until February 17th as players or team managers. The suspension of the following players shall commence immediately:

  • Hanul “K for Kimchi” Mayer
  • Tom “Airtom” Aguilar
  • William “VoidBoss” Zhu
  • Victor “v cy” Cho
  • Toby “KonKwon” Kwon
  • sun2
  • Luke “BlueHole” Kim
  • BlueMary
  • Jovepan
  • Jenin
  • Rue De Thirper
  • InStyle Rue

Conclusion & Final Thoughts
Seeding exists to create tournament match-ups as fairly as possible and reward teams who climb the ladder and excel in the Challenger Series. Intentionally circumventing rules or manipulating the tournament process for any reason is completely unacceptable, and we will not tolerate individuals or teams who choose to manipulate their way to an advantage.
