Draw for RP?

RP Art, mastery tokens, playtesting, and petting Yuumi.

Welcome to Ask Riot! Have a question?

Take a moment to enjoy the masterpiece above before moving on to read about playtesting, mastery tokens, Yuumi, and RP Art. (Look again, just to make sure you appreciate the attention to detail.)

Q

How many drawings have you gotten for RP Art? How many Riot Points have you given out?

A

For starters, I think RP Art tickets are magical! There’s so much passion and talent in the drawings players send us, from painstakingly made color-by-pixel MS Paint art that competes with Photoshop prodigies, to players who think drawing a red circle and indicating it’s Vlad in his pool is a pretty funny thing to send us (it is). If you’d like to see that masterpiece and other amazing art, check out this video.

In the last 11 months, we’ve received a little over 24,000 RP Art Tickets worldwide (mostly reasonable requests), and we’ve been able to ensure these players get the little thing they need. If we go back to the beginning, we estimate we’ve received over 300,000 RP Art submissions. If each player was granted about 25RP, then we’ve given out about 7,500,000 RP since the program began. And it’s been worth every glorious drawing.

If you’re ever just a little RP away from unlocking that one skin or icon you’re hungry for, feel free to reach out to Player Support!

Q

How can I come to Riot to test out new champions or larger VGUs?

A

During champion development, we host several playtests or “player labs” where we bring in external players (non-Riot employees) to play the in-progress kit and give feedback on the visual and narrative concepts. These players can be anyone who lives within the Southern California area, since that’s where our main headquarters are located. Travel makes it cost-prohibitive to open this up to any player, but we try to be aware of and deliberate with our sampling given this restriction.

To be eligible, you need to be an active League player, generally be sportsmanlike without any banned accounts (we had to… relax this requirement when bringing in Draven mains to playtest Kai’Sa), and again we typically only grab players in the greater LA area.

We also occasionally invite and fly out more well-known champion enthusiasts/one-tricks with large communities to give in-depth feedback on their champion if it’s receiving a VGU. In the past we’ve had IreliaCarriesU (Irelia), Professor Akali (Akali), and Malicious Metal (Mordekaiser) give feedback on their champions. We try to stay in touch afterwards too as sometimes there are uh, lingering issues to be resolved post launch (*cough Irelia and Akali cough*).

I’ve personally shown new champions to thousands of players before launch, and while I’m transitioning away from running player labs for new champions, the Champions team is dedicated to running these for each new and reworked champion at multiple stages of development. Make sure your email is up-to-date because that’s how we’ll reach out if you’re invited to a playtest!

Q

Why can’t we get level 6 and 7 mastery tokens from ARAM?

A

When Champ Mastery gives you a grade, it takes into account your champion, your role, and the game mode you’re currently playing in. And while getting an S or S+ on Howling Abyss is impressive, it’s being graded on a completely different scale than Summoner’s Rift. Depending on who and how you’re playing, it might be much easier (or harder).

With Champ Mastery 6 and 7 as the current peak of the Champ Mastery system, we want to be sure that those ranks mean the same thing to everyone. If we started giving out Champ Mastery tokens for ARAM grades, that accomplishment would get muddier. That being said, we don’t like that this leaves ARAM-only players out of the top of the Mastery system, and we’re looking at how we can change that without changing the meaning of Mastery 6 and 7.

Q

If I’m allergic to cats will I have to stay away from Yuumi, or can I pet her because she’s magical?

A

Yuumi is currently the keeper of the powerful and sentient Book of Thresholds, but she also has her own innate magical powers of protection. One of these abilities is her magical shield. Luckily for you, this shield also applies to common pollutants and allergens!

So as long as Yuumi activates her shield, her purple fur is blocked from reaching your nose, and you are safe from sneezes. Just don’t let her scratch you—her magical cat claws can poke through her shield and cause nasty hives.

A further note… the strange spirit realm atmosphere of Bandle City nullifies all allergens, so if you’re able to visit Yuumi in her natural habitat, you will be able to pet her without fear of an allergy attack.

We’ll do our best to read every question, but we can’t guarantee they’ll all get answers. Some questions may already be answered elsewhere, and some won’t be right for Ask Riot. This isn’t the best place to announce new features, for example, and we might skip conversations on issues we’ve talked about in depth before (though we can clarify individual points).

We are listening, though, so keep asking. We’ll make sure your questions are heard by the Rioters working on the stuff you’re curious about.
